Techniques Of Pest Control Queens

By Angel Dudley

In the recent years, most consumers have preferred pest control methods that are safer and more effective. At the same time, most people look to conserve the environment and would not want to use methods that have adverse environmental effects. In consideration of pest control Queens residents have a number of options that can prove to be very beneficial and effective. The choice of technique depends on ones preference and the type of pest to be controlled.

The majority of insects produce a hormone known as pheromone that they use for attraction of male counterparts during mating. Pheromone has a very powerful smell. It is from these that pheromone traps are made. Scientists have gone ahead to duplicate the scents, which are then used to lure the pests that are targeted.

The use of pheromone traps comes with one major shortcoming. It may not be very effective because it is used to attract male insects only. However, it serves a very effective way to issue early warning about pest infestation. This is because after the trap is set and one notices that one insect has been trapped, then it means it is time to launch control strategies. It would simply means that there is a very serious infestation looming. Army-worms, cutworms and cabbage loopers can all be controlled using the technique.

Insecticidal soap can be used for controlling mites, aphids, white-flies and a host of other insects that are soft bodied. The soap has fatty acids that are unsaturated. They are derived from animal fats and serve to dissolve skin of insects. The soaps are commercially formulated and specifically sold for control of insects.

There should not be confusion between these soaps and herbicidal soaps. Herbicidal soaps are meant for killing vegetation and not pests. There are also normal household soaps that serve as washing detergents. For insecticidal soaps to be very effective, one should ensure they are in contact with the pest while they are still liquid. They will not have any effect on pests once they dry up.

Pests can be denied oxygen using oil sprays. For the sprays to be effective, they must hit the pests directly. Eggs of pets are killed using dormant oils. The oils are also used to kill disease spores found on bare branches of trees. In order to treat growing plants, light-weight and refined oils are made use of. In comparison with dormant oils, lighter oils tend to evaporate much faster. They therefore do not damage plants.

Care should be taken not to spray plants that suffer from lack of moisture. In addition, spraying should not be done during very hot weather. It is advisable that the spray is tested with a few of the leaves prior to spraying the whole plant. After that, one should wait for about 48 hours to ensure leaf spotting or even loss of color does not take place.

In consideration of pest control Queens residents could also practice good hygiene as a way of controlling pests. By keeping the house and yards clean, pests will have neither food nor breeding places. This leads to considerable decrease in their number. Hygiene practices include cleaning toilets, cleaning plates and utensils after meals and always keeping food covered.
