Essential Information Regarding Arm Lift Procedures

By Andrew Moore

An arm lift, also referred to as brachioplasty, is a procedure that is performed to remove excess skin and fat cells from a person's upper arm. Ideally, the end result is firmer, more youthful looking upper arms. As people age, the skin of this area often becomes flabby and loose, and this procedure was designed to reverse this occurrence. Only a qualified plastic surgeon can perform the aforementioned surgery.

During brachioplasty, an incision is made from one's under arm to his or her elbow. An additional incision on the person's side is sometimes required as well. The cosmetic specialist may also suggest liposuction. Whether or not the latter is performed will depend on the amount of fat being removed and other specific factors.

There are many reasons a man or woman may pursue this type of surgery. For example, those who were formerly obese and shed a significant amount of weight may have been left with flabby, loose upper arm skin. One may also simply tend to carry excess fat in this area, in which case such surgery may be a viable solution.

It is essential that one choose a plastic surgeon with whom he or she feels comfortable. This is because although it is cosmetic in nature, an arm lift is major surgery. Therefore, one should not proceed with a physician with whom he or she does not have a good rapport.

Requesting before-and-after pictures and reading reviews about various plastic surgeons before surgery is scheduled is a wise course of action. Consumers may also decide to verify the surgeon's credentials online, where it is easy to find information concerning specific physicians' track records. Interviewing more than one surgeon, rather than finalizing plans after speaking to only one professional is a good idea.

Ultimately, an individual's appearance can be enhanced by an arm lift. Therefore, he or she can expect to experience a higher level of self-confidence following the surgery. However, cosmetic procedures are not appropriate for all individuals. This is why it is essential to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of such action before finalizing one's plans.
