Teach Children Responsibility With Paying Their Own Talk Phone Cellular Bill

By Frank Collins

Parents know how imperative it is to be able to keep in contact with their child throughout the day. Even while a child is in school most parents want their child to have a talk phone just in case an emergency arises and they need to get in contact with their child. However, there are a few things that parents must know before giving their child a mobile cell.

Although a mobile cell is on their list this year, it is up to you the parent to decide whether or not the child is responsible enough to own one. If they are responsible enough then the next step is to search for a device which you believe will be suitable for their needs. Not all children need a phone with a camera or one which allow them to search the web. However, most children around middle school age will want one with these amenities.

Talk to young children about being smart and safe with their cellular. Discuss who they are allowed to give their phone number to and what sites they are allowed to visit if they have internet on their phone. It is also a great idea to set up a parental watch on their device. You will be able to see what types of texts they are sending out.

Set some guidelines for the child and the cell. You might choose to put a tracker on the phone and tell the child that when they see you calling they have set amount of time to get back in contact with you. This is only when they are hanging out with friends, at school the child has to follow the schools guidelines about using mobile cellular.

You will not find too many young children that do not have a cellphone. Most of them are supplied with the top of the line technology and many are allowed to use it freely. However, if you want to protect your child from the same predators that would be on the computer, you need to take the same precaution with the phone.

It is also important to discuss bullying and only using the phone to interact positive. Many children sneak and open up accounts on their phones to talk and interact with other children away from school. It is crucial to discuss with a child about the negative effect that these app accounts can have on their life. Children should know that they should only talk to people they know from school and family members on their phone. Anyone else has to go through your approval first.

Many children cannot miss what they have never had. It is always good to set boundaries. Let your child know what you will and will not tolerate with them and the phone. The first moment you see them step out of line, it is a great idea to take the device away from them until you feel they are ready to get it back.

Children should know that having the latest technology requires a little work to keep it. They could do chores around home to help pay for it, or help out in the community. If they are old enough to get a part time job after school that is also a great way to teach responsibility. It will be one less bill you will have to worry about paying.
