Ways To Assist The Disaster Relief Ministry

By Enid Hinton

In the 21st century the epic battle between man and the environmental elements continues. We have witnessed an upsurge in natural disasters occurring and causing great havoc. From the Hurricanes of the Coasts of the Americas to the earthquakes and Tsunamis in the Eastern part of South Asia one cannot help but think our planet is one ticking time bomb. The Disaster relief ministry keeps note of this events and the destructive trail they leave at their wake. Indeed Natural Disasters have led to loss of lives on a grand scale and left property of great value destroyed. The good news is that they are steps one can take to play a wider role in the efforts to assist those who are affected.

Prayer is a very powerful tool that is at your disposal. Human beings since the beginning of time have placed their faith in powers bigger than them. They have also placed their problems and fears. Prayer is not only so that God can help the families affected overcome the trouble in their lives. It can also make you feel better about yourself. In your own way, you are showing concern and solidarity with the victims of these disasters.

There is a large number of this relief organizations springing up on a daily basis. This deal with a variety of disasters like tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, earthquakes and others of Man-made nature. In the 21st century people have witnessed some of the worst disasters. Examples are the Tsunamis in South East Asia and the earthquakes in Chile and Haiti. With the growing lists of unfortunate occurrences many people and organizations have taken it upon themselves to assist the affected.

Another way of assisting the people who are affected is volunteering to work in the crisis areas. This is a decision you have to think through carefully. Some of the places you are bound to be sent can be dangerous or volatile. Therefore understand that your decision is a personal sacrifice for the well-being of others.

In other instances, Governments are the ones behind these relief agencies. The Government understands the role played by these agencies is crucial and they are more motivated to deal with these situations. To this end a proper regulatory framework is set up to oversee their activities in the country.

For the agencies that operate within the confines of the law, they will be looking for trained volunteers. Skill such as First aid and trauma treatment, rescue operations, physicians are vital to the organization. Some of them may be looking for materials to help the victims.

Sending notes for Consolation can be of great comfort to the victims. They will feel appreciated and think they are not the only ones grieving. Instead everybody is aware of their predicament and is praying for their quick recovery.

Ensure the notes you send are in an easily understood language that anyone can understand. You can send the notes through the church missions, the relief organizations, schools and newspapers. The message on the note should also be clear and straight to the point. Avoid talking in generalities.
